Addressing Change in the Fitness Business – Technology-style

November 15, 2024

The club and boutique industries are constantly changing and it’s imperative that business owners keep pace. It can feel like a treadmill, but there is one important constant that will keep any fitness business focused: it’s all about the members and their success. With that in mind, any change that makes you easier to do business or makes the experience safer or more personalized are things worth considering. Looking and planning ahead, here are several things to consider.

1. Prioritize your System Integrations

A great member experience is essential in demonstrating the quality of your studio. As a partner program manager, I would be remiss if I failed to emphasize the importance of getting your tech stack buttoned up. There are so many solutions out there that can help you offer a seamless experience for your members. A fully integrated system will allow your staff to do their actual jobs and not focus their time on redundant tasks.

How do you do this? First, you need to know your weaknesses. Where are you spending way too much time today? Things like lead nurture, member engagement, review management, accounting, and payroll might be examples. Once you know that information you can dig into each area to understand the financial cost of that weakness and choose integrated solutions that work best for you.

2. Explore Artificial Intelligence

We all know that AI is the hot button topic right now – how do you use it in your studio? There are many ways to leverage AI to enhance your member experience and improve operations. Take some time to educate yourself on how other studio owners in the industry are using AI. For example, you can use AI do to things like:

Recommend relevant content, products, or events based on your member’s interests and behaviors.

Leverage chatbots to do things like provide support, nurture your leads, and increase member retention.

Overall, it is important to remember that AI is a tool for you to utilize, not a replacement for staff. When using an open AI source to generate ideas or content prompts, think of it as a foundation for your creativity. Use it to inspire and expand upon your own thoughts and ideas.

3. Invest in Cybersecurity

As technology grows and changes, we see studio owners relying heavily on their digital systems. Staying secure is becoming increasingly more difficult, but your members trust that the information they provide you is safe. Keeping that trust means that staying up to date on the latest security best practices and technologies is of the utmost importance. You should engage in regular security audits and staff training on your cybersecurity protocols.

4. Foster a Digital-First Culture

Most importantly, if you are going to implement technology at your studio, it is important that your staff feel included. Take the time to train your staff on new technology and encourage them to embrace digital tools. Create a space for them to feel comfortable asking questions about the new systems so they are comfortable using them. This mindset will help your studio adapt more quickly to technological changes.
